Our Goal
We wanted to build a space where a woman could walk in whether she was selling handmade scrunchies at a local market or running a company with 200 employees—and feel like she belonged. Where the woman juggling three kids and a side hustle could be seen and heard just as much as the woman with business cards and a boardroom. Because we believe every woman has something to teach and something to learn. And we wanted to create a support system for all of it.
So, what's the sitch?
So we started meeting every Tuesday morning, bright and early from 7:30 to 8:45 AM at Iewers Nice in Westdene, and the energy from that first meeting? Electric. There was laughter, realness, connection, and—most importantly—no pressure. Because we aren’t here to hard-sell or push stats and PowerPoint slides. This isn’t that kind of networking group.
Each week, every woman who attends gets a moment to introduce herself and share her business if she wants to. But if you’re someone who’s been to a few meetings and feels like you’ve already said what you need to say, we encourage you to do something different with that time. Ask a question. Raise a topic. Share a struggle. Let the group help you brainstorm, support you, or simply listen. That back-and-forth? It’s where the real magic happens.
We also have weekly themes, and members rotate giving slightly longer talks. These aren’t just "talk about your business" speeches—they’re a chance to teach something you’ve learned through your journey. Maybe it’s how you got your first 10 customers. Maybe it’s what bookkeeping taught you about boundaries. Maybe it’s how you managed to keep going during burnout. These are the kinds of stories and skills we want to pass around the table.
And we’re not afraid to go deep. We openly talk about the real challenges that come with being a woman in the workplace. We talk about accessibility issues. About being underestimated. About being interrupted, overlooked, dismissed. We talk about what it feels like to juggle care work and ambition. And yes—sometimes we talk about hard things like workplace harassment or trauma. We do it carefully, with respect and warning, because those conversations matter too.
But we’re also full of hope. We’re here to grow. To learn. To climb. That’s why we bring in guest speakers and experts for special sessions—things like self-defense classes, calmness yoga, interview coaching, or even tools to build confidence in tough conversations. These aren’t your average “workshops.” They’re specifically designed to empower women in every version of the workplace.
One thing we get asked often is: “But what’s the point of coming every week if people already know what I do?” And I get it—traditional networking makes it feel like you show up, pitch, hand out cards, and bounce. But we’re not about that life. The real value comes in the conversations, the unexpected lessons, and the connections that build over time. We’re not a referral group, but trust me—people do support each other. It just comes from a place of relationship and authenticity, not obligation.
Now let’s talk accessibility and inclusivity.
We care deeply about making this a welcoming space. When you apply to become a member, there’s a space to let us know if you have any special needs - whether it’s auditory support, ASL, sensory preferences, or something we haven’t thought of yet. We’re listening. We’re learning. And we’ll do what we can to make the space better for everyone.
At SheCreates, we are deeply committed to diversity and inclusivity - all women are welcome, regardless of race, background, age, ability, identity, or experience. We have a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination, hate speech, or exclusionary behavior. This is a space built on respect, empowerment, and genuine connection.
Our hope is that women walk into this group feeling like they can take a deep breath and say, “Okay. These are my people.” We want you to feel heard, valued, encouraged, and occasionally even lovingly challenged. We’re here for the messy middle of growth, not just the glossy finish line.
If you’d like to attend, bring your business cards and your best self. You’ll get a chance to introduce yourself to the group, and if you decide you want to stick around and become a full member, there’s a monthly fee of R250. That helps us keep the space going and allows us to bring in those extra-special guest speakers.
